Gujarat on top in producing best quality seeds

Talking with the farmers through video conference as a part of Krishi Mahotsav today Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that State government has taken enough care to provide for the requirement of 5.25 lakh quintal of seeds for Kharif crops. “The state government has kept a stock of 50,000 quintal of quality seeds over and above the requirement”, he said.

Mentioning the state government’s efforts for making farmers aware about the uncertified seeds he said that state’s forensic science lab carry out DNA fingerprint test to examine the quality of seeds. The state government has set up 11 tissue-culture lab, he said.

The use of sub-standard seeds spoils the entire year of farming. Considering this the state government has focused on the production and supply of the certified quality seeds. The four agricultural universities carry out research on best quality seeds for the different crops as per eight agro-climatic zones. The farmers from all corners of India come to Gujarat for buying of best quality seeds. Gujarat is on top for producing the best quality seeds of cotton, castor and millet, he said.

In order to produce and provide best quality seeds to farmers the state government has come up with seed village scheme. Under this scheme, Gujarat has covered the crops like cotton, groundnut and castor too, which are not included in the Centre’s scheme, he said.

The ‘Gurabini’ brand of the state government has become popular. The immunity in the improved strain of date, cumin and castor has increased greatly, he said.

During the talk, the Chief Minister enumerated examples of the progressive farmers who earn high income by making new experiments and using best quality seeds.

Tourism circuit to take place between Thailand and Gujarat

A delegation from Thailand, led by Thailand’s envoy to India Mr. Pisan Manawapat, met Chief Minister Narendra Modi today and discussed regarding expanding ties between Gujarat and Thailand for mutually developing the tourism and other sectors.

Mentioning that about 60,000 Thai tourists visit the places of Buddhist relics in India every year Mr.Manawapat expressed keenness in starting a Buddhist tourism circuit between Gujarat and Thailand. Accepting the suggestion of the Thai envoy Chief Minister suggested exploring possibility of starting Vishnu circuit between the two places considering the presence of ancient temples of Lord Vishnu in Thailand.

Both the dignitaries agreed to take ahead the mutual ties for developing tourism in Gujarat and Thailand. They also agreed to start air services between Ahmedabad and Bangkok.

Mr.Manawapat expressed the Thai companies’ interest in partnering the State in its housing and infrastructure projects including the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor project. The Thai envoy said that a special importance will be given to the trade partnership with Gujarat in the business-investment seminar which is to be held in the coming September month in Thailand.

Senior officials of Gujarat government shared the State government’s development vision during the meet.

It is noteworthy that there is a great possibility of cultural exchange between Gujarati and Thai people. The international airport in Ahmedabad has been constructed by a Thai company.

Collector Manual should help particularly newly appointed IAS officers of Gujarat and even other States: Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today launched the comprehensive ‘Collector Manual’ published by the State Revenue Department in English language at a function.

The manual condenses a wide range of laws, rules and regulations related to Revenue Department into 500 pages in a simple language and self-explanatory notes. It contains the entire gamut of documents, ranging from land records and settlements to various taxes, working of civil supplies, mines and industry, environment and election, disaster management to various taxes handled by the Collector, continued from Mumbai Police Acts and newly incorporated Acts.

The Chief Minister congratulated the Revenue Department officials for taking up this painstaking job. He said this manual should be of immense help to particularly newly appointed IAS officers, and also as a Reference Book for district administration in other states as well.

Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel said that the Collector Manual was first published in Gujarati and English languages incorporating relevant details up to 2008. The latest manual in English includes amendments, additions and alterations in laws related to the revenue department after 2008.

Principal Revenue Secretary C.L. Meena and other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.

 Gujarat Chief Minister blesses 251 couples at multi-caste mass marriage near Surat

Mass marriage gains social acceptance among affluent as well as tribal families, needs scientific management: Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today expressed satisfaction at greater acceptance of the concept of mass marriage among affluent as well as in tribal families. However, he said, there is need for scientific management of such events. He blessed 251 couple on the occasion.

Participating in a multi-caste mass marriage ceremony organized by Sahara Manav Kalyan Trust Vadi at Jhankhvav in Surat district, he said the government has doubled the incentive to brides from Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 to encourage mass marriages. It takes care of eradicating social evils as well as vulgar display of wealth with families concerned entering into deep debt traps.

The Chief Minister was particularly happy at the emancipation of tribal people living in forested areas, their newfound urge for higher studies and joining the mainstream.

He said the government has started higher secondary schools in science stream in tribal areas. In the past, there used to be quota for Scheduled Tribe students in medical and engineering colleges, but there used to be no schools to prepare them for higher studies. The state government has sent 80 tribal youths for higher education abroad.

Mr. Modi said the government has allocated Rs.40,000-crore for Van Bandhu Yojna to be spent during the next five years for the welfare of people living in forest areas. The state government trains tribal youths for the Army.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Avichaldasji Maharaj of Sarsa made a fervent appeal to the society to stop thinking daughters as a burden and check female feticide.

Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly Ganpat Vasava said the tribal culture is the root of India’s heritage and he exuded confidence that tribal people in Gujarat would prosper under the leadership of Chief Minister Modi.

MP Bhratsinh Parmar said that stressed on the need to make education compulsory among tribal. He hailed the blessings of sants and mahants to the newlyweds. Over Rs.12-lakh collected on the occasion was donated to Chief Minister’s Kanya Kelavni Nidhi.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Trust founder Amarsinh Vasava, Parliamentary Secretary Harshad Vasava, Kishore Vankawala, Bharti Rathod, MLAs, Surat District Panchayat President Ashwin Patel, Ajay Choksi, families of the newlyweds, chairmen of  State Corporations, ex-MPS, community leaders and District Collector A.  Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has announced that, Gujarat Government, with a view to encouraging value addition in agro-industries, has decided to set up a high level committee that will study and suggest measures for strengthening agro-infrastructure, agro marketing and preservation of agro products, food packaging and marketing, with absolute holistic approach. The committee that will consist of renowned agro experts, agro scientists, agronomists, progressive farmers and experts from Government side will ensure absolute forward linkage for agro infrastructure. This will bring about a revolution in agriculture sector and help future generation getting attracted to agriculture, he added.

Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated Gujarat’s fourth zonal mega Krishi Mahotsav of South Gujarat at tribal dominated Nana Pondha village, full of flora and fauna, of Valsad district, on Thursday.

Lambasting Center for its meat export policy, he said, while Gujarat was heading for green and white revolutions, Union Government had adopted the policy of encouraging “pink revolution” and that was export of mutton to foreign countries. Centre was committing a sin with pink revolution policy. Such anti-peasant policy would ruin the agriculture sector that was mainly supported by animal husbandry, he said. “Gujarat will never tolerate such anti-farmer policy, he warned.

Coming down heavily on Opposition in Gujarat, he said, “They have set up a “Lie Manufacturing Factory” in Gujarat, whose sole aim is to spread lies about Gujarat. They say: Farmers in Gujarat have ruined with the growth of industries in Gujarat. The fact is that, the fertile land of South Gujarat that spreads from Ankleshwar to Vapi belt on National Highway was allocated to industries by the past Governments ruled by the Opposition. We have allotted completely barren land to industries and yet getting optimum results of it,” he added.

Underlining Gujarat’s pro-agro policy he said, “We have set up 22 Agriculture colleges in Gujarat. We have planned to set up an Agro-Engineering college in Dediapada and a horticulture polytechnic college in Dharampur, the areas dominated by tribal population. We are planning to start an Agro Bio Technology college in Surat, that will help future generation to adopt ultra modern and scientific methods in agriculture”.

“Gujarat Government by organizing mega agriculture festivals (Krishi Mahotsav) for the past eight years, has made Government answerable to people. This festival is a festival of reckoning. No Government in India can even think of such revolutionary step”, he added.

He gave away cash awards over Rs. 60 lakh to 11 progressive farmers of south Gujarat, who have applied modern technology and new methods in agriculture.

He also felicitated Sardar Patel Agriculture award and Agriculture Technology Management Award (ATMA) farmers for their extra-ordinary contribution in the field of agriculture. The Chief Minister inaugurated an impressive exhibition, contains over sixty stalls, depicting new methods of farming, research and value-addition technology in agriculture and visited a Cattle Health Camp. The Chief Minister released a souvenir being published by Agriculture University.

Thousands of peasants from Surat, Narmada, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Dangs districts participated in this mega zonal Mahotsav. Ministers Mangubhai Patel, Dilipbhai Sanghani, Narottambhai Patel, Ranjit Gilitwala, Ishwarsinh Patel, MPs, MLAs, Chief Secretary A. K. Joti and other dignitaries were present.
